Wanaka Aquatic Centre

Powell Fenwick was brought into the second stage of project (the aquatic facility) to complete the mechanical, pool water and hydraulic services of the facility which is currently in construction.

As part of the design process a detailed study of heating sources assessed options due to the high electrical costs in Wanaka. Powell Fenwick worked through this with the Queenstown Lakes District Council and local utility companies to provide options to extend the LPG network to the Three Parks Development as well as setting up a local wood chip operation to service the facility’s heating demands.

In addition, Powell Fenwick was able to help to use the pool water for fire fighting purposes saving on additional infrastructure, and help with an onsite chlorine generation option for the pool water.
