MECHANICAL

Queenstown Country Club 004
Our Mechanical team is the largest in the South Island - combining experts in all areas of mechanical services design. We work closely with clients and design teams to ensure buildings are well ventilated, comfortable and energy efficient to meet your individual needs.

Our team provides design of heating and cooling systems including refrigerant, water-based, boiler and more.

We offer thermal modelling of loads, including analysis and advice on glazing, passive shading, and insulation. This ensures efficient design and benefits our clients by reducing HVAC capital and operational costs, while also improving comfort.

We provide ventilation design to comply with the NZ building code as well as specialist areas including operating theatres/healthcare facilities, fume cupboards, welding bays, dust extract systems, commercial kitchens and much more.

Our team carries out medical gas system design, from manifolds to outlets for hospitals, dental and other medical facilities including oxygen, nitrogen, medical air, surgical air, compressed air, entonox, cardon dioxide, helium and more. Our staff carry out both MGPS Competent and Accredited Person accreditations.

We carry out the design of laboratory gas systems including local bottle and centralised distribution systems incorporating automatic changeover and external monitoring for gases.

Taking a practical approach to the application of a wide range of international standard requirements, we integrate these with local legislation in areas including health and safety, hazardous substances, seismic resilience and redundancy.

Our services include thermal insulation assessment for building code compliance. We offer assessments in accordance with H1/AS1 and AS2, as well as modelling method H1/VM1 and VM2.

We also provide early-stage full building simulation to optimise façade design for passive building performance. Simulations can be undertaken to consider thermal performance for heating and cooling, energy consumption, occupant thermal comfort and daylighting.

We have experience completing energy audits and reviews of existing systems operation of all types of buildings to identify areas where they could operate more efficiently with the systems installed. This can help to develop options to improve or replace systems to provide greater functionality, comfort, and energy efficiency.

Our team strives to deliver application-specific control systems that provide building users, operators and owners the level of detail they each need, reducing the amount of unwanted information. System complexity can range from standalone controllers, through to central building management systems, to campus-wide common control infrastructure/platforms, associated management systems, dashboards and reporting tools.

Utilising open communications standards and protocols, our team seeks to ensure control systems are modular and can be maintained, upgraded and replaced throughout the economic life of the built environment.

We consider controllability and system interfaces from the concept phase of building design through to construction and commissioning and into maintenance. This lays the foundation for building operators to monitor ongoing system behaviours and measure performance to help optimise building performance in the face of changing occupant behaviours and requirements throughout a building’s lifecycle.

We have a dedicated Aquatics team who live and breathe everything aquatics. Hundreds of pool projects underpin our team’s experience, from residential to Olympic facilities and everything in between. For an energy efficient aquatics facility which is easy to operate and maintain, seek our team’s specialist advice.

Aquatic Energy Modelling and Optimisation

Our team utilises modelling software to complete energy analysis of aquatic facilities. This enables the team to assess heating and cooling, and analyse various options including the HVAC system, dehumidification strategies, pool temperatures, air temperatures and humidity levels – optimising systems for the facility and individual energy consumption.

Aquatic Energy Audits and Analysis

Energy audits can be completed for several different reasons and aquatic facilities are unique in comparison to any other building type. Our team understands the major levers for energy consumption. We understand the complexities in the systems installed and produce energy audits with a high level of detail.

Even without existing submetering installed, the team can create models to replicate what is happening in the facility to enable in-depth analysis for either optimisation or future needs.

Building Envelope Analysis and Advice including Vapour Barriers

Aquatic facilities and pools are unique as the warm, chlorinated air can lead to increased maintenance and premature failure of building elements. Our team can assist clients and design teams around the materials used, how to protect them, the building envelope including analysing where condensation will likely occur, and where vapour barriers are best be installed in association with the ventilation system design.

Filtration and Treatment Systems

A major part of an aquatic facility is the pool itself. We provide independent advice on the latest technology available for both the filtration and treatment system to ensure the pool water quality is held to the standard the client desires. Our focus is always on ensuring clients have a clear understanding of options, operational requirements and costs associated with the options available.

Aquatic Specific Heating and Ventilation Systems

Heating is the most important part of an aquatic facility regarding not only the energy consumption, but also the wellbeing of occupants. The ventilation system is also incredibly important to the overall facility. Our team analyses the dehumidification process required for the local conditions, the heat recovery method used for optimised energy consumption, and the air distribution ensuring the best quality facility. There are many details of a ventilation system which are integral to the facility operation including humidity control, temperature control, and pressurisation, which we have specialist expertise in-house.

Condition Assessments, Decarbonisation and Long-term Planning

It’s not only new buildings we love. With aquatic facilities being highly corrosive environments, maintenance is key.

We can help establish the existing condition for the facility and strategise the site to be replaced effectively and efficiently at the end of its economic life – creating a long term plan for the facility. We utilise specialist aquatic software to estimate existing energy usage onsite and how to reduce the carbon emissions associated with the facility.
